Desperation Point

Located in Taranaki, Desperation Point is an exposed beach break with reliable waves year-round, peaking in spring and summer. The southwest swells create both left and right-breaking reefs, while east-northeast winds keep conditions clean. Water temperatures average 19.3°C, and the tide has minimal impact on wave quality. Surfers should be cautious of rocks in the lineup, though crowds are rare even when waves are good.
