Mahia Spit

Located in Gisborne and Mahia, Mahia Spit is a challenging reef break that works best during summer with northeast swells. The left-hand reef break produces powerful waves suited for advanced surfers, though it's inconsistent. Offshore southwest winds create ideal conditions, but hazards like rocks and localism require caution. With moderate water temperatures and rare crowds, it's a sought-after spot for experienced surfers.
