Matakana Island

Matakana Island is a beach break in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, offering both left and right-hand waves. The surf is inconsistent but works at all tide levels, with groundswells from the north-northeast being ideal. Offshore southwest winds create the best conditions, though crowds and strong rips can be hazards. Water temperatures remain pleasant year-round at around 22.3°C.
