Tathra is a beach break in Far South New South Wales known for its consistent waves, especially from southeast swells. The best conditions occur at mid tide, producing both left and right-hand waves suitable for beginners. Offshore west winds enhance the surf, while summer often brings flatter conditions. Surfers should be cautious of strong rips and the occasional shark presence, though crowds are rare. Water temperatures average around 19.2°C, making wetsuits advisable.
